Trusted by licensed electricians, solar installers, electrical contractors, facilities managers, and industrial businesses across Queensland. Custom engraved traffolyte for switchboards, equipment, safety signage, and more. Local Gold Coast production with Australia-wide delivery by mail.
Traffolyte is a multi-layered laminated plastic sheet specifically engineered for engraved labelling. When the top layer is laser engraved, it exposes a contrasting colour beneath producing crisp, permanently readable text that outlasts any printed sticker or adhesive label.
The name "Traffolyte" started as a brand name for a multi-layered phenolic plastic developed in England in the 1930s. It has since become the universal industry term in Australia for any engraving laminate of this type similar to how "Biro" came to mean any ballpoint pen. You may also see it referred to as Traffolite, engraving laminate, phenolic laminate, or by brand names such as Metalex, Rowmark, Gravoply, and 2-ply.
Today's traffolyte is made from high-quality acrylic-based materials that are UV stable, weather resistant, heat resistant, and impervious to most industrial chemicals making them the go-to choice for permanent identification anywhere conditions are tough.
How the layered system works:
Because the contrast is part of the material itself not ink, paint, or print the markings cannot fade, peel, smear, or wash away. This is why traffolyte is the most universally accepted method for Australian Standards compliance in industrial labelling.
0.5mm (flexible, curved surfaces) · 0.8mm (general purpose) · 1.5mm (switchboard standard) · 3.0mm (signs & plaques)
From licensed electricians to mine site managers, facilities teams and defence contractors traffolyte is specified across virtually every Australian industry that needs permanent, reliable identification.
The single biggest application for traffolyte in Australia. Licensed electricians, electrical contractors, and switchboard builders rely on engraved traffolyte to satisfy AS/NZS 3000 requirements for permanent, legible circuit and switchboard identification. Far more durable than printed labels or Dymo tape, which yellow, peel, and fade over time.
Solar installers and CEC-accredited electricians need compliant traffolyte labels on every solar and battery storage installation. The "Multiple Supplies" warning label is compulsory on any switchboard with a solar inverter, and engraved traffolyte is the specified material under Clean Energy Council guidelines.
Maintenance engineers, factory managers, and industrial contractors rely on traffolyte for control panels, machinery, process equipment, and production lines. The labels survive grease, solvents, high temperatures, and constant handling where printed alternatives simply fail.
Government and workplace safety regulations frequently mandate engraved traffolyte for warning signs in high-risk environments. Standard safety colours red for danger and fire, yellow for caution and gas, green for safe conditions are all available in UV-stable traffolyte sheet.
Mine sites, oil and gas facilities, and heavy industry demand labels that survive extreme UV exposure, chemical contact, vibration, and temperature swings. Traffolyte with its 35+ year outdoor UV tolerance is specified across Queensland's resources sector for equipment ID, pipe markers, and safety compliance.
Hospitals, medical centres, and aged care facilities use traffolyte for room identification, equipment labelling, gas line markers, and wayfinding signage. Chemical and sterilisation resistance makes it ideal for clinical environments.
Office buildings, shopping centres, schools, and strata properties use traffolyte for architectural wayfinding signage, directory boards, door signs, locker labels, and tenant identification a professional, long-lasting alternative to printed acrylic.
Cable identification, rack labels, terminal block markers, and asset tags for communications infrastructure and defence applications. Traffolyte is specified for wire and cable ID in telecoms, aerospace, and military environments where label failure is not an option.
Australian Standards and workplace safety regulations dictate specific colours for specific purposes we stock the full range. Whether you need the standard black on white for circuit labels or fire-service red, we have you covered.
Additional options include: fluoro colours · matte and gloss finishes · textured (grease and solvent resistant) · brushed metal look · reflective. Custom corporate PMS colours available for larger orders. Ask us what's available for your job.
The difference between a laser-engraved traffolyte label and a printed sticker is the difference between a permanent professional asset and a temporary placeholder. There's a reason Australian Standards point to traffolyte as the preferred method.
UV-stable cap layers ensure outdoor labels remain legible for decades, not months. Perfect for Queensland's harsh sun exposure.
Acrylic-based traffolyte is impervious to most industrial chemicals, cleaning agents, oils, and fuels the markings stay legible regardless.
Suitable for use near electrical equipment, machinery, and industrial processes where heat would destroy printed labels or vinyl.
Universally accepted by inspectors and certifiers under AS/NZS 3000, Clean Energy Council guidelines, and other Australian industrial standards.
Laser cutting means any shape is possible custom dimensions, rounded corners, mounting holes, T-slots, and complex cutouts for panel fitment.
A traffolyte label that lasts 30 years costs far less over its life than repeatedly replacing printed stickers, Dymo tape, or vinyl labels.
Many Australian industries don't just prefer traffolyte they require it under law or regulation. Printed stickers and handwritten labels will fail an inspection; engraved traffolyte will not.
Inspectors and certifiers regularly reject installations with printed labels, Dymo tape, or handwritten markings. A common compliance failure is the "Multiple Supplies" warning label on switchboards where solar has been added if it's not engraved traffolyte, it may not pass.
We can produce replacement compliance labels quickly often the same week so your project doesn't sit waiting for a re-inspection.

They are the same thing. "Traffolite" is simply an alternative spelling of "traffolyte." Both terms refer to the same multi-layered engraving laminate plastic used for durable industrial labels. You may also hear it called 2-ply, engraving laminate, or phenolic laminate.
