Many of these materials can be assessed for engraving or marking, but they are not all suitable. Some may engrave well, while others may melt, chip, crack, release odour, expose fibres, react unpredictably or need a safer alternative.

Sometimes. The answer depends on the exact material, item shape, coating, finish, thickness and whether the material is safe to process. A smooth piece of Mother of Pearl will not behave like carbon fibre, HDPE, Ebony, Zamak or velvet.
For unusual materials, the first step is identification. Once the material is known, it can usually be routed to the most relevant material family, such as timber, metal, stone, ceramic, leather, natural material or technical plastic.
Unknown materials are treated with caution. If the material cannot be identified, or if it may release unsafe fumes, melt unpredictably or damage equipment, we may decline the job.
